Statement on the Municipal Council Meeting of November 11, 2024

Faction spokesperson Edy Reding emphasized that the LSAP faction supports the creation of a forestry development plan for the years 2025-2034. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the LSAP election program, which states that the municipality, in collaboration with the nature conservation administration, will undertake the necessary adaptation measures to ensure the long-term viability and stability of our forests, making them fit for the next generation.

Our forester already pointed out during the presentation of last year's management plan that climate change is leaving significant marks on our forests. Reduced rainfall in summer, heavier rainfalls, more frequent storms, and a declining number of frost days in winter pose enormous challenges for our forests. These extreme weather events have increased significantly in recent years and will continue to affect the condition of our forests in the future.

The current climatic changes make it imperative for us to act decisively in the coming years. The development plan proposed by the nature conservation administration addresses this issue and offers clear measures to help our forests, such as promoting oak trees, increasing tree diversity, and strengthening genetic diversity. Protecting and adapting our forests to future climatic conditions is essential to secure this valuable resource for the next generation. We see this plan as an important foundation for ensuring sustainable and forward-looking forest management.

The LSAP faction also approves the management plan presented by the nature conservation administration for 2025 and recognizes its importance for the protection and sustainable development of our forests.

Faction spokesperson Edy Reding posed two questions to the nature conservation administration:

  1. Why has the restoration of the small pond in the Krautemer Forest near Herchesfeld, which was previously used for educational purposes, not been implemented since it was planned in 2021?
  2. What is the current status of the renaturation of the “Ale Weiher,” and what studies have been conducted on this matter?

Councilor Sandra Carelli expressed her delight at the establishment of two bicycle washing and repair stations. This initiative will surely be well received by the many cyclists in our community and contribute significantly to improving cycling infrastructure as well as promoting sustainable mobility.

Councilor Erny Fisch welcomed the fact that the municipal executive council kept its promise and fulfilled the LSAP faction's request to increase the point value for calculating club subsidies. Thanks to this decision, our clubs now receive greater financial support. This is an important signal of appreciation for the valuable work of the clubs and strengthens their engagement within our community.

Statement on the Municipal Council Meeting of December 16, 2024

Municipal Councillor Yves Damy emphasized the great importance of having a broad and well-organized sports offering for the community. Particularly during the pandemic, the lack of sports activities for children and young people became a focal point, as these activities are crucial for their physical and mental health, as well as for promoting social connections.
A particularly commendable initiative is the planned appointment of a second sports coordinator, who will oversee the municipalities of Frisingen, Roeser, and Weiler-zum-Turm. This project is largely subsidized by the state and represents an important step in securing and further expanding the quality and reach of sports offerings in the region. So far, the focus of the impulse project has been on the municipality of Roeser. The planned extension to the two other municipalities is a forward-looking measure. An attractive and effective sports program can only be ensured with appropriate coordination and adequate resources. Therefore, the decision to invest in an additional sports coordinator is the right and important step to meet the needs of the population and sustainably strengthen the sports offerings in our region.

Group spokesperson Edy Reding supports the financial aid for organizations active in the field of international humanitarian aid, aiming to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged children in Senegal, Benin, and Nepal. Supporting such projects not only shows the community's willingness to look beyond its own borders, but also sends a clear signal that the community is contributing to international solidarity and continues to believe in the commitment of NGOs. Especially in the year of the Caritas scandal, this is an important statement.

Councillor Erny Fisch welcomes the initiative by the Bench Council to provide financial support to associations involved in national humanitarian aid and particularly advocates for the support of the association "AmbulanzWonsch a.s.b.l." this year. The organization "AmbulanzWonsch a.s.b.l." does exceptional work by giving seriously ill people the opportunity to fulfill a final wish. Councillor Erny Fisch therefore sees this measure as extremely meaningful and deserving.

Statement on the Municipal Council Meeting of December 19, 2024

Spokesperson Edy Reding reaffirmed the LSAP faction's full support for the municipal executive council's decision to purchase a residential house located directly next to the town hall. This acquisition enables the future expansion of municipal administration.

During the municipal council meeting, the revised budget for 2024 and the draft budget for 2025 were presented, debated, and voted on. Edy Reding thanked the municipal executive council and the municipal secretary for their exemplary PowerPoint presentation, which provided both the finance commission and the municipal council full insight into the various budgets. This transparency demonstrates that openness in the municipality of Roeser is not just a buzzword but a practiced principle.

Importance of Municipalities
Councilor Reding emphasized the importance of municipalities in national politics. Their investment policies directly influence key economic sectors and, consequently, the labor market. The submitted budgets reflect continuity while also presenting an optimistic outlook for the future of Roeser. The clearer separation between the operational and investment budgets is a significant step. This distinction makes the administrative operating costs, syndicate contributions, energy expenses, and regular maintenance costs more comprehensible.

The municipality of Roeser can expect increased revenue in the coming years. While last year’s revenue stood at €38.6 million, this year’s revenue is projected to reach €42.8 million, and €45 million for the next year. This development allows the municipality to continue advancing important projects without raising fees—except for water prices. Additionally, in 2025, a citizens' budget of €100,000 will again be announced to promote active resident participation.

Key Budget Focus Areas

The LSAP faction sees the proposed budgets as crucial steps toward improving residents' quality of life and fostering sustainable municipal development. Planned measures include:

Housing: Investments in affordable housing.

Energy Transition and Climate Protection: Continuation of projects promoting renewable energy.

Infrastructure: Expansion and modernization of public facilities and transportation routes.

Quality of Life: Initiatives to further enhance the social, sports, and cultural offerings in the municipality.

Council members Yves Damy and Erny Fisch also emphasized the importance of the planned investments in infrastructure, sports, climate, and environmental protection. They noted that
