Keeping senior citizens actively involved

- In order to enable senior citizens to remain active and at the centre of society and life for as long as possible, the facilities as well as the range of services provided by the Senior Citizens’ Club in Berchem were expanded. Cooperation with the “Frënn vum 3. Alter” has made it possible to provide a sufficiently wide range of activities for every senior citizen in our municipality.

- The implementation of a municipal plan for senior citizens has begun. The completion of the first phase will make it possible to link the senior citizens’ plan with the equal opportunities plan and the “Pact for Living Together” in the next legislative period.

- New and in some cases privately-run projects such as the neighbourhood network “Hoplr”, “Tele-Alarm”, which was granted financial support by the municipality, or the new day centre recently opened by an independent care provider were backed in order to foster autonomous and self-determined living for senior citizens.
