Statement on the Municipal Council meeting of 15 july and 5 august 20242024-08-07Statement on the Municipal Council meeting of 15 july 2024 Local councillor Yves Damy welcomed the planned extension of the SuperDreckskëscht service, given that this sorting system ensures that waste is disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner, thereby contributing to the sustainable management of resources. In the same vein, Councillor Damy asked the Aldermanic College whether there were any plans to appoint a manager for each site, and whether any training would be required for municipal staff to ensure effective and sustainable management of the project. Councillor Damy also expressed a positive opinion on the ‘Natur genéissen’ project. It is particularly important, at a time when lack of physical activity is increasingly common among young people, to raise their awareness of the importance of eating local and seasonal produce. The project is therefore an important element in promoting health and environmental awareness. The fraction's spokesman, Edy REDING, raised an important issue concerning article 6 of the ASFT agreement and drew attention to a potential problem concerning free childcare hours: if parents neglect to register or deregister their children, the commune is left with the costs incurred. Councillor Sandra CARELLI pointed out that childcare during the holidays is no longer free of charge and that, as a result, the number of children on holiday is falling. Councillor Edy REDING, in his capacity as the local authority's representative on the Social Office, also pointed out that there are fewer cases in our local authority than in neighbouring municipalities that require social support from the joint Social Office. Nevertheless, the municipality of Roeser takes its social commitment very seriously and provides the Social Office with 24 housing units in which 89 people are currently accommodated. This shows that the local authority is assuming its responsibilities in the fight against the housing shortage. Councillor REDING also welcomed the new lease agreement for the roof areas of the ‘bei der aler Schoul’ residential development in Peppange, which the local authority has concluded with ‘Sudenergie’. The project will further promote the use of solar power to generate electricity using photovoltaic systems, and is an important step towards a sustainable energy supply. The municipality of Roeser is thus actively investing in the future and strengthening its own municipal shareholding. Councillor Erny FISCH supported the Board of Aldermen in its decision to purchase the house located next to the Roeser commune and quoted the famous Luxembourg proverb: ‘Nothing is too expensive next door’. He also emphasised the importance of such investments for the future of the commune and noted that the Board of Aldermen was acting with foresight. With this purchase, the College of Aldermen is underlining its ability to plan ahead, which will enable the town hall to be extended in the future. In conclusion, Edy REDING, the fraction's spokesman, reiterated the view he had already expressed at the last Local Council meeting regarding the ownership of the municipality's assets. He emphasised that the municipality's real estate, meadows and forests were not detailed in the municipal accounts. It is clear that the municipality cannot always make ‘good deals’ on property purchases, but such investments certainly do not impoverish it in the long term, but on the contrary, enrich it. All these issues clearly show that the Local Council takes a keen interest in the sustainable development and social prosperity of our municipality. We are on the right track and will continue to act responsibly and with an eye to the future.
Statement on the Municipal Council meeting of 5 august 2024 Councillor Yves Damy, as a member of the Sports Committee, is delighted that the College of Aldermen has accepted the committee's proposals for new rules on municipal merit in the field of sport. He believes that it is important that in sport, there should no longer be any difference between age categories and that ‘distinctions’ should be taken into account according to title. This represents recognition of the work accomplished in youth sport and the performances of young people. Councillor Erny Fisch welcomes the initiative of the College of Aldermen concerning the introduction of new municipal regulations on municipal merit in the fields of sport, culture and voluntary work. In fact, the order of municipal merit for voluntary work, in particular, is an initiative that deserves to be supported. It recognises and rewards the efforts of volunteers who devote their time and energy to various causes within the municipality. These volunteers are vitally important, as without their commitment, many associations and organisations would simply not be able to function. Associations often depend on the hard, voluntary work of the people involved to carry out their missions. Whether it's organising events, providing direct support to people in need or promoting social, cultural or environmental causes, volunteers play a crucial role. Their contribution enriches community life, strengthens the social fabric and makes it possible to live together in a community. It is therefore both legitimate and essential to reward these committed citizens, recognise their value and encourage them to continue their efforts. Initiatives such as the Mérite communal pour le bénévolat underline the importance of volunteering and inspire others to get involved for the common good. |
