Statement on the Municipal Council meeting of 25 March 2024

2024-04-10

Councilor Yves DAMY welcomes the construction of a shared cycling and pedestrian path between Grand-Rue and rue de l’Alzette. It is another piece of the puzzle in promoting sustainable mobility in the Roeserbann area, and hopefully, it will eventually connect to a “chemin mixte” with the “Pëppelswee” (the road between rue du Brill in Roeser and the roundabout in Biwingen). Notably, this measure will further enhance the safe school route for students.

Yves DAMY is also pleased with the continued support from the municipality for the local fire and rescue center (CIS Roeserbann). The expansion of a container storage area will allow for the consolidation of interchangeable containers used in civil protection and flood response, ensuring swift deployment when needed.

Municipal Councilor Sandra CARELLI, on behalf of the LSAP faction, supports the installation of retractable bollards and the temporary closure of the access road to the Krautem school building. Unfortunately, many parents still choose to drive their children to school by car rather than using the Pedibus or school bus. This increased traffic poses significant risks to children walking or cycling to school, and parking options near the school are limited. Despite reinforced awareness efforts at the start of the school year, parents resumed driving once municipal employees were no longer present.

Spokesperson Edy REDING also welcomes the Schöffenrat’s (College of Aldermen) initiative to install retractable bollards. This decisive yet necessary construction measure will put an end to endless discussions about the safety of the school route. Rat REDING is particularly pleased that the Schöffenrat discussed this initiative with residents of the relevant neighborhood, who have pledged their full support.

Councilor Erny FISCH expresses regret regarding the additional costs for renewing the church windows in Peppingen. However, he believes that these investments are essential to preserve our community’s cultural heritage and to showcase the revitalized heart of Peppingen in all its glory
