Statement on the Municipal Council meeting of 5 February 2024

2024-02-14

After Jerry BUCARI, Sports Coordinator for the municipality of Roeser, had presented his activity report for the years 2022-2023 to the municipal council, Councillor Yves DAMY thanked Mr BUCARI for his interesting and detailed presentation. As sport is one of the main factors for a good, healthy and mental condition, our municipality has long been committed to offering its citizens an attractive sports programme. Thanks to our sports coordinator, this range of sports activities has expanded considerably and the large number of enrolments in sport classes is clear evidence of the needs and great interest of the citizens.

The construction of a sports hall in Berchem could counteract the shortage of sports halls. In addition, family sports activities such as the "Geeschterlaf" or the "Nuit des sports" should be maintained, where the focus is to have fun while doing sport. Councillor Damy was particularly pleased that the municipality of Roeser had been selected along with 3 other municipalities to take part in the IMPULS project, which aims to develop an optimised sports and exercise offer for all population groups by networking and strengthening all stakeholders involved.

Councillor Erny FISCH was pleased about the increased financial participation by the state in the construction of the of the clubhouse, mentioning that it will soon be ready for occupancy.

Fraction spokesman Edy REDING gave the college of aldermen his group's full support in regards the creation of a safe footpath and cycle path along the CR186 between Kockelscheuer and the Cloche d'or. This project, which was initiated by the municipality of Roeser, received the full support from the municipality of Luxembourg. This 1.5 kilometre long and 3.5 metre wide path is intended to provide cyclists and pedestrians with a direct and safe link between the "Pôle d'échange" Cloche d'or, the Kockelscheuer recreation area and the connection between the village of Kockelscheuer and the Parc Luxite. To prevent too great an impact on the natural environment a 90 metre long bridge is to be built. The costs of the project will be shared between the two municipalities.

Council REDING finds it all the more incomprehensible that the new Minister of the Environment Wilmes rejects this project, even though Wilmes, as a member of the Luxembourg municipal council of aldermen promised full support for the project!?
