Bilan 2017-2023

2023-05-21

Dear fellow citizens,

As previously announced, and on behalf of my team, I am pleased to present the achievements of the current legislative period, which is drawing to a close. The years passed since the last local elections in October 2017 have been special. On the one hand, the period of our mandate has been half a year shorter than usual due to a change in the electoral law. Above all, however, the past years have been marked by multiple crises, starting with the Corona pandemic, closely followed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war, which has been waging ever since. The ensuing energy crisis and problem of supply shortages have not only severely delayed construction projects, but also caused soaring prices and high inflation. The climate crisis, which should undoubtedly be the biggest challenge for politics, has all but been pushed into the background.

The results of the current legislative period are therefore quite mixed. During the previous term of office, the local council made up of an LSAP – CSV coalition proudly reported that between 90 and 95% of the commitments made in the coalition agreement of 2011 had been put into practice.

This time, it has to be admitted that a little more than two thirds of the coalition agreement and thus also of the LSAP electoral programme of October 2017 have been implemented, and therefore our track record is slightly weaker.

Nevertheless, given the particular circumstances, I am satisfied with what has been achieved. Indeed, the pandemic led to a slowdown of all activities – meetings and gatherings were cancelled, planning work was hampered and authorisation procedures were extended. This also holds true for the work done on the ground by the various construction and craft companies. All in all, nearly two years have been lost.

So overall, I am satisfied with what we have achieved together.

In October 2017, we campaigned under the slogan “Zesumme mat Iech, fir de Réiserbann“ (“Together with you, for Roeserbann”).

Together with my 12 LSAP colleagues forming the mayor’s team, my ambition has been to move Roeserbann forward – together with you, including all citizens of our municipality, regardless of their age, gender or origins – and also regardless of their personal political views.

We are socialists and we stand, we stand by our convictions and we are also pleased with the level of support that municipalities in general, and Roeser in particular, have received from various ministries and ministers over the past years.

For LSAP Roeserbann, the common good of all citizens and our municipality will continue to prevail over party politics. It is in this same spirit that we would like to shape the future of our municipality, together with you, and to achieve progress for our villages and their inhabitants.

For the mayor’s team,

Yours, Tom Jungen
