Nature, landscape and forests
- For almost 20 years, the forests owned by the municipality have been managed in accordance with FSC criteria at the initiative of LSAP. In cooperation with the Nature and Forestry Administration, we will continue to promote more nature-friendly forest management techniques as well as a sustainable and climate-friendly use of our forests in the future. Those forests that were cleared during the construction of the new railway link between Luxembourg and Bettembourg, for exampe, have already been or will be compensated for on municipal territory.
- Communal forests have been steadily developed over the past few years. This allows for the consistent implementation of our ten-year forest management plan on the one hand, and for the sustainable use of wood resources on the other. For example, a wood chip boiler was installed during the construction of the new school campus in Berchem.
- The loss of biodiversity and species diversity is a global challenge. Thanks to local initiatives, in collaboration with the nature conservation association SICONA, the municipality of Roeser has also shown increased commitment in this field, in accordance with the nature pact. Species-rich meadows, the maintenance of existing biotopes or the creation of new ones, the planting of new fruit trees or the reinforcement of migration corridors are only a few specific examples of the policy pursued in the last legislative period.
- The convent garden in Peppange, the urban gardening projects carried out by the CIGL, our municipal gardening department, as well as the rapidly progressing planning work for our first community garden are all elements of our wider commitment to protect nature and to enhance our citizens’ quality of life.
